I FIND Steam's Diablo 4:
no Esync + no D3D = can open, but Occasional lagging
Esync + D3D = can't open
Msync = black screen
what is the recommended startup configuration?

For me it works great with D3D + Esync.
I had similar issue as you do, but reinstalling it helped(it broke afte Diablo IV update). I don't even use the Diablo IV bottle, I use the Battle.net one.
I am on Sonoma 14.2.1 @ M1 Pro Macbook
