Hi, I've got crossover games, and I have been attempting to run Half Life 2 for quite a while. Upon launch of the game, the screen goes white, but I can hear the Valve opening logo song (when the picture displays, and the "powered by source" comes up). Shortly after that, the screen goes black, and then goes back to the mac desktop. Any reasoning behind this?
Also, I use crossover games to play TF2, and it runs like a dream on my 24" iMac. However, no matter how much I click "Widescreen (16:9)", and restart the game, it won't open in widescreen, and there are large black borders on the side of the screen during play. Not really a big problem, but I'd like to fix it if possible. Thanks!
Couple things to try. First, make sure you're using Crossover Games 7.2.2 as it has some memory leak fixes for HL2 and HL2-based games. Then try adding "-novid" to the Steam properties for HL2, and possibly "-dxlevel 95" to reset your graphics settings in the game (once you've changed the settings make sure to remove the -dxlevel or else your setting will reset every time you run the game).
for the bars: try 16:10 instead of 16:9. The 24" iMac's default aspect ratio is actually 16:10, so the 16:9 might be wigging out the Source engine.
