I've downloaded and reinstalled Crossover twice and get the same bottle creation error.
cxbottle:error: unable to create the 'Microsoft Word Viewer 97_2000' bottle in '/Users/bob/Library/Application Support/CrossOver/Bottles/Microsoft Word Viewer 97_2000'
If I tell the program to skip the step I get this messages
cxassoc:error: an error occurred while scanning the Windows associations
The process then hangs.
Oddly enough it creates a bottle that contains the following files and folders:
cxbottle.conf
dosdevices
drive_c
system.reg
user.reg
windata
I've tried on several different valid programs and get essentially the same message.
I'm using Crossover 9.0.1 with Mac Snow Leopard OX 10.6.3 on an Intel Mac
I've searched the various help files but nothing seems to have this problem.
Is this enough information for you folks to go on?
I'm on a MacBook running Crossover 9.01 and 10.6.3 and I just installed it through the installer without a problem.
I have a couple of questions.
1) You mentioned you've downloaded and reinstalled Crossover twice. Did you wipe out every trace of Crossover when you did that? You can follow the instructions here if you're willing to try it. At least that way, we know you're starting from scratch but it isn't possible for everyone.
2) Did you go through the installer inside of Crossover?
I'm curious if you can manually create a XP bottle inside of Crossover without the use of the installer and then manually use the installer into your new test bottle.
abeta's suggestions are good ones. If they don't help, then please open a support ticket. We can work with you to collect the necessary information to diagnose and fix the issue.
To Abeta's question. I was working to another set of removal instructions. So I deleted the application and the application support folder, not the others. I will try that and give it another go in the morning.
If you mean did I go through the installer using the Crossover set up assistant (or whatever it is called), yes I did. I also tried it manually.
To Ken's suggestion of opening a ticket if the above fix doens't work. How do I do that if I haven't paid for Crossover? I'm not going to pay for Crossover until I know it works, but how can I get the advice to get it to work without paying for it? Or have I misunderstood the ticketing system.
Ok, when you said you tried it manually you meant you created the bottle first, let it become ready then used the internal installer or did you download your own installer?
ie, This test is to see if you can even create the bottle correctly without doing anything.
To open a case with Crossover, simply send an email to info@codeweavers.com and send them a link to this URL saying Ken told you to open a case.
You haven't misunderstood the ticketing system. You have to be a customer to use it to open a ticket through the system, but if you just email them and explain Ken told you to do so and link to this thread they'll take care of opening the ticket for you and handle your problem. It'll also give them an idea of what you've done already, etc.
They're good people :).
Now...if you do open a ticket, can you just post back here with the ticket number? I don't work for Codeweavers but I'm generally interested in problems/solutions with the Mac :).
I checked the drive_c folder and there was a Program File inside for Netscape Communicator for some odd reason but there was nothing inside the folders.
So I will now email them as you and Ken suggested. Thanks for your help so far
