I've had numerous problems with installing applications in Crossover. The latest app I tried to install, RUM, is a single .exe file. It requires Micro$oft .NET Framework 3.5 and Micro$oft Chart Controls. After installing RUM using the Crossover Installer, nothing happened. It never showed in the Crossover "Programs" menu, even after I did a clear and rebuild.
I'm wondering, if certain Windows apps and/or Crossover need a bit of configuring to get an app to work. And if so, what kind of options and parameters can you manipulate in Crossover (besides the Preferences and "Configure Bottles" option, of course)?
I've noticed that some Windows apps don't necessarily use an installer, they are just standalone. Can these be used with Crossover? I haven't had much luck so far with them.
I know this post isn't in the Unsupported Apps sub-forum, but if anyone can help me troubleshoot the RUM install, it would also be greatly appreciated.
Thank you! 😊
P.S. Here is the link to the RUM app I'm trying to install: RUM
.Net 3.5 is known not to install properly, currently. We're working on it.
To run a standalone .exe which doesn't get installed, first make sure you have a bottle. Then, use the Run Command dialog. If you get it working, you can save the command to the Programs menu.
From the link you gave, I gather that RUM stands for Rapidshare Upload Manager. Searching our Compatibility Center, I find two possible matches:
(Those may even be duplicates. I'm not sure.) Read the Tips & Tricks and Forums at those pages to see if others have got it working in CrossOver. Post to those app-specific forums to put your question(s) in front of the audience most able to answer them.
Cheers.
P.S. Here are some moderately-advanced suggestions for experimenting with getting unsupported software to work. (They're a bit out of date, but give you the gist.)
