CrossOver Support - Community Forums

It is a somewhat special problem, but i can't solve it and it really bugs me. I'm left handed to nearly to the extreme so when i play FPS games i reassign the key so i use the o-key instead of the w-key for up etc. But typing the command key plus the o- or k-key results in the program to be minimized to the dock. Doing this in counter-strike makes the game in-returnable and a restart of crossover must be done(really annoying of your on a streak :P).

Does anybody know how to circumvent, disable or do anything with commandkey combinations? Could their be made a check box or similar in the preference pane.

At the moment, there is no feature like that in CrossOver. It's on our list of feature requests, but, to be honest, it's kind of low and the list is long. :-/

Some possible options:

• You can change CrossOver's preferences to make sure that the Option key (maybe labeled Alt on some keyboards) sends the Alt keystroke to the game, rather than accessing additional characters from the keyboard layout. Then, in the game, you can use the Option key instead of the Command key. Since Option-O doesn't correspond to a menu item, it won't interfere with play.

• Use System Preferences > Keyboard > Keyboard Shortcuts > Application Shortcuts to assign different keyboard combinations to the menu items of CrossOver Games. For example, you can use something like Command-Option-Shift-Control-O for File > Open to make it nearly impossible to type. I think that doing this replaces, not just augments, the Command-O default.

• Use System Preferences > Keyboard > Keyboard tab > Modifier Keys to (temporarily) change the modifier sent by the Command key. Then, in the game, you can make the reverse change. (E.g. make the key send Control instead of Command and make the game treat Control as it would Alt.)

• You can download Apple's developer tools, use Interface Builder to edit CrossOver Games.app/Contents/Resources/English.lproj/MainMenu.nib, and strip the command-key shortcuts.
