Hi,
I am trying to evaluate CrossOver, and certainly it seems like a very useful product. However, I have been unable to get the bottle creation process to terminate gracefully. I am using two pieces of software that are self-installers. One is iCATVision and the other is 3DVR. Both read DiCOM files, which is the format for CT scans and other medical imagers. I know several physicians that use OS X personally but have to use Windows in their offices. I am also involved in coordinating physicians and surgeons regarding my son's surgical care. It has been extremely useful to have CrossOver, but it is not smooth and I'd like to resolve this and pass it on to the doctors I have spoken with.
I'm using an aluminum laptop running 10.5.8, with 2G RAM and a 2 GHz Intel Core Duo. I am using CrossOver 9.0.
The software installers are available (freely) at http://www.imagingsciences.com/downloads.htm. CrossOver will launch the installers, and the embedded software runs and operates quite well, but the bottle creation and installation process does not complete. The software applications launch during the installation process, and when I try to exit from them, CrossOver hangs. I get the spinning beach ball of death. If I let this run, all memory gets paged out and CrossOver takes all available memory after ten minutes or so. I have to use Command-Option-Esc and force quit CrossOver. When I try to relauch CrossOver, if the bottle from the previous attempt is still present, CrossOver hangs and repeats the above behavior. I have to throw out the bottle that was created previously before CrossOver will run again. The software applications themselves run just fine, although they are supposed to be integrated and this problem has prevented me from installing both applications in the same bottle.
I have only tried Adobe Reader 8.x and 9.x installers, but they have other issues. I do not have any other Windows software and I am reluctant to randomly try a freeware app. I am willing to try a reputable installer to see if I can reproduce this with other software.
I have been unable to locate any "debug log."
Again, this would be very useful and helpful to medical specialists who actually prefer OS X over Windows for their offices, and it would also help me ensure my son gets the best help for his situation.
thanks in advance,
tim
