I'm looking for a customer/Advocate named Julian Blair. His profile sadly does not have his email. Admins, if it's inappropriate for me to be looking for him this way, then I appologize and please delete this post.
Julian, if you're reading this, I'd like to get in touch with you. I'm planning to use CrossOver Mac to run Microsoft Train Simulator om my iMac and I see that you have experience in that field. I'm not a computer wizzard though, and I've got a few questions. Could you drop me an email at bart_smets@skynet.be
Haven't heard for Julian yet, maybe someone else would be willing to help me out?
As I said in my previous post, I'm planning on using Crossover to run Microsoft Train Simulator (MSTS). But I have a couple of questions:
Do I buy CrossOver Mac or CrossOver Games? I consider MSTS a game so I'm leaning toward the latter...?
I've been doing a bit of reading on MSTS and CrossOver and it seems I will encounter a problem during installation as MSTS had 2 installation discs and CrossOver doesn't seem to like that. Julian Blair kindly wrote a tip about this problem (http://www.codeweavers.com/compatibility/browse/name/?app_id=2877;tips=1). But I'm not at all a computer specialist. To be honest, the first tip (which I believe is about the 2 disc problem) is like Chinese to me. What are iso files, why do I need an iso-program, what is meant with 'mounting' and 'un-mounting' cd's etc... Could some translate this into an 'How to for dummies' 😊
Also, I don't have this Roxio Toast Titanium and I rather wouldn't have to buy it just to solve this installation problem. Is there no other program I can use that comes standard with the Mac, or is there a free downloadable app somewhere that does the same thing?
Last question has more to do with MSTS and not CrossOver. Is anyone out there running MSTS this way? I'd like to know if there are no troubles with downloading and installing add-ons.
Not everyone reads the general forums -they only monitor the apps they are interested in.
Therefore, you will do better asking these questions in that app's forum;
You should use CXG for this (crossover games). Sometimes you can work around a 2 disc
install by copying the contents of both discs to a directory and starting the setup
from there...as for does it run in crossover, grab the demo version and find out (the
demo version of crossover is the full version, just time limited). Going by the entry
over at wineHQ it seems likely to work;
I have succesfully installed MSTS using CrossOver.
You can install the program with either CrossOver or CrossOver Games, simply click "install other application" on either and CrossOver will automatically create an application bottle and install the application successfully. As for the two disc problem, I have solved that easily on my MacBook, but I don't know how this will work on an iMac. I simply ejected the disc when the program said to insert disc two, then inserted the second disc, and then hit OK. The program successfully installed, however when I tried to run the program the error message "MSTS encountered a serious problem and needs to close. Other applications are not effected." came up. Hope I have been helpful, and if anyone could help me actually get the game to run, I woud be much obliged.
(P.S. I have the 2002 version, this might be different on a different version.)
Please Note: This Forum is for non-application specific questions relating to installation/configuration of CrossOver. All application-specific posts to this Forum will be moved to their appropriate Compatibility Center Forum.
