Windows COM Ports under Crossover Mac 9.0.1

I have a USB to Serial port converter that works 100% with Mac OS x 10.6. I would like to use the USB to serial port converter with Windows programs. I just need to know if a link to the device in Mac OS X will work.

For example, in Mac the device is linked listed here:
crw-rw-rw- 1 root wheel 10, 7 Jun 18 03:00 /dev/cu.usbserial-FTCVXPMK

Is it possible to simply link to this device in the devices directory and have it function in a Windows program?

ln -s /dev/cu.usbserial-FTCVXPMK COM1

Thanks for any input.

It may but it may not. Unfortunately, this is not a very thoroughly tested area of functionality in CrossOver.

I suggest you give it a try with our trial download (assuming you already own the Windows program).

I know in Linux I can accomplish this by just linking to the device. But in Mac OS X I can connect to the device with a symbolic link and commands to the port are sent by indication of the activity light, but the commodes are not executed and no data is sent back. Looks like I would need a special driver to work between Crossover and Mac OS X.

You might try our recently-released public beta of CrossOver 9.1.

There's a slim chance that serial comms will work in that version when they didn't in previous versions. I found and fixed a bug with setting the baud rate for serial ports on non-Linux platforms. On the off chance that that particular bug was the single factor preventing it from working, it may work now.

Hi, I am trying to run Avaya site administrator software from crossover but have found when I try and use the modem I can't configure them as I don't know how the com ports correlate to the modem device. Any advice as this is the one thing stopping me from buying it and sticking with parallels?
Cheers in advance

Unfortunately, at this time our best advice is taking a listing of /dev (i.e. "ls /dev") with the device attached vs. unattached and look for what changes. If the modem is built-in, that may not be suitable.
