Will the FF XIV Mac Port will continue to work on Monterey 12.3 and onwards?

I'm aware the Mac FF XIV client support must be handled through SquareEnix and their stance on M1 processors is that the game directly doesn't run with them (obviously not true) and they don't even bother to answer any question, but I wanted to know if you can provide some extra information.

Particularly with the upcoming 12.3 Monterey update. Currently with 12.2.1 I started to get a warning when I launch the game saying that the application will soon cease to work in an upcoming version of MacOS I clicked on 'Learn more' and it's related to the deprecation of Python2 on the upcoming 12.3 update. Not sure if Python2 is needed for CrossOver within the FF14 mac client....but i'm aware 12.3 will change several things within the system too.

So my question is, can I continue updating and will it continue working for the time being or should I stay in the current latest version 12.2.1?

In the Lodestone site they mention their validation of Monterey found several issues while testing

Figured you would have more insight about this as you guys are the devs of the Mac port.
Cheers

Hi there,

The current released version of the Mac FFXIV client will not continue to work with Monterey 12.3. We are working with SE on a fix for the Python issues, but I don't have a timeline since that's up to SE. I would recommend holding off on updating to 12.3 until SE announces compatibility.

Best,
Meredith

Just a note, there is a community run port of FF XIV that has significantly better performance.

You can find it here. https://www.xivmac.com

Confirmed on 12.3. FF14 does not load due to the version of Python (that was EOLd on Jan 1, 2020) is no longer included in macOS.

For reference, Python 3 was released Dec 3, 2008.

So CodeWeavers needs to update their product to not use the EOLd python then SE needs to update their version to one that properly supports macOS 12.3 or bite the bullet and make a native client as they already promised a decade of support for the game itself (with requirements changing so they may drop macOS support along with it).

macOS used to ship python2 and only recently started to provide python3 via Xcode.

The problem here is SE as CrossOver-19 and later bundles it’s own copy of python3, so until SE approves an updated client there’s nothing that CodeWeavers can do.

That is probably true however Python 2.7 reaching EOL has been known for more than the last few years and support was only kept because so many packages still relied on it and the developers didn't want to update to Python 3. Eventually the Python devs had enough and EOL'd. Python 3 has been around for more than long enough that CW could have done the update AND included it long before CrossOver 19 which would have prevented this. Plenty of blame to go around to both CW and SE.

Has there been any progress on this from either end? Square Enix still hasn't announced anything yet and CodeWeavers has also been silent.

This is quite worrying as in less than 8 weeks macOS 13 will be announced at WWDC.
