Upgrading to Crossover XI and Currently Installed Apps

I received the notice of the release of Crossover XI with great excitement but have a couple of questions before I actually installed it.

I have CrossOver 10.x and Outlook 2007 installed on my Early 2011 MBP. Do I need to pull out both before installing CrossOver XI? I am a Windows expert, and would normally say that (on a Windows system) a user needs to uninstall a previous version of Office before installing the latest version, as both old and new don't work and play well together. However, I have no idea how both would interact, if at all, given that apps are installed in bottles.

Can you please help me understand the best way to install CrossOver XI given my interest in Office 2010 and my current install of Outlook 2007?

Thanks in advance!

Here is what I did that worked for me:

1) Backup (Archive) each bottle in the current version of Crossover you have installed
2) Uninstall the current version of Crossover
3) Install Crossover XI
4) Import the archived bottle(s)

You should now be back to where you were.

To install MS Office 10:

I installed MS Office 10 and kept my MS Office 2007 version, because I'm worried that MS Office 10 won't work as completely as I need it.

1) Install Windows Software
2) Select "Microsoft Office 2010" from Supported Applications
3) Select your installer file (the *.exe file)
4) Click install and following the directions

This will generate associations to MSOffice 10. If you find that MSOffice 10 is not as stable as you would like, you can open the bottle with your previous version of MSOffice (using Manage Bottles), go to the Control Panel tab and click on manage associations.

I hope that helps!

I upgraded from crossover games. In my case, it offered to migrate my current bottles to the new version of crossover, and everything ran smoothly. The second time I ran it (after really exiting, not just closing the window), it warned me that crossover games was no longer needed, and asked me if I wanted to uninstall (which I did).

So, to answer your questions, the best way to install the new version is to just do it. It seems like the application will take care of everything for you. Just make sure no one is having problems with any critical applications you are currently using, that may break with this upgrade.

Chris,

Mark and Luis have both given an excellent run down. I just wanted to touch on one more point to make it clear.

You can keep your Office 2007 bottle installed and install Office 2010 in a separate bottle. Then, you can actually run both at the same time and decide from there which one will be more stable for you.

If you have any other questions, let us know and we'll be happy to help!
