explanations of how Crossover works

Thus far I am VERY impressed with Crossover as a alternative to Fusion or Parallels but i still am uncomfortable with management of Crossover:

  1. Should I combine applications in one bottle or should I create a new bottle for each application that I want to install?

2 If I do so, doesn't that duplicate much of the Windows infrastructure and add to memory usage?

  1. When Crossover is opened, are all the bottles opened even if they contain programs not being used? Does that take up memory unnecessarily?

  2. Can a bottle be deleted? If so how?

Actually, we recommend a different bottle for each application that you are installing. Sometimes pieces of one install can affect another in both good and bad ways but the more muddled a bottle becomes the more difficult it is to track down an issue with one application. Also, if you installed five applications in one bottle and then the sixth broke them all, you would need to reinstall each application to get them working again.

Not really. It duplicates some of the file structure but not all of the pieces used to run an application.

Each bottle is scanned but only the processes being used remain in memory.

Yes and once deleted, the bottle would have to be recreated to regain functionality so use the following steps with caution.

  1. Click on the CrossOver icon in your dock.
  2. At the top of the screen the title bar should now say "CrossOver" next to the Apple Icon.
  3. Click on "Configure" and choose "Manage Bottles".
  4. Select the bottle you no longer need/want.
  5. Use the "minus" button in the lower left side of the window to delete the bottle.

Put them all in the same bottle if you want them to work smoothly

Only if they are dependencies for an application that needs them. Putting everything into the same bottle is bad news. I have already explained why above.

Yes you are right but if you use a browser to link to an App like Flash Player or Sopcast for instants you need the App with the browser.
