Hello,
I am evaluating using crossover for use on my MBP. I love that it does not require me to install MS windows on my mac, But I am having a problem installing a couple of programs.
I have installed Autocad LT 97 but I cannot seem to figure out how to install my LT 98 Upgrade, which I need to access my files.
The install shell is looking for a "valid EXE file" to verify the upgrade, and I figured out where to link it for the AC LT 97 program, but when I select the C:\program file folder that contains the program file (shows it in Finder) the Installer Explorer does not show the Autocad LT 97 folder and will not install, saying "no valid EXE file found"
I am trying to also install my Chief Architect 8.0 program, but cannot seem to get it to go beyond the install interface. THis program uses a "Button type" installer interface, where there is a "splash block" for lack of a better term, that has a button to install the program as well as several other options to install other programs. When I click it, it never gets to the actual installer??
Well the good news is I figured out a work around to get Autocad LT 98 update to install....
I am including this incase it might help someone else out with a similiar issue.
I copied the whole program folder into it's own folder on the hardrive
(go to "manage bottles\ open in finder" to get to the folder location)
then I pointed the upgrade installer to that version of the exe file for it's "verification check"
IT WORKS..... seems to run very smoothly and I have not found any issues so far. other than those associated with re-setting up all my preferences, plotting, lineweights, hatches ect...
Now I am working on getting a large format virtual PDF printer :)
I might be an idiot, but doesn't OSX have a "save as pdf" fonction baked right in to it? Last I used a Mac at friend house, the PDF fucntion was in the first window of the print dialog. I actually don't own a Mac, so this might be useless for you, and I wouldn't know! ;)
In any case, I haven't tried it, but maybe you could try pdfcreator in wine (http://www.pdfforge.org/pdfcreator). Be warned that I have no idea if it would work as I have never tried it. Do try it in a seperate bottle so as not to mess with your autocad install. But if it works, I thing it would have to be in the same bottle as your autocad software to be used by it.
Thanks Jean-Patrick, I will try that wine PDF creator.
This version of Autocad uses the system default printer without any interface pop-up to select the PDF creator in OS X, so I never get a chance to select it.
It doesn't even show up. I tried Cup-PDF but it doesn't seem to work... I might not have it set up right, IDK :???
I wrote a booboo... I meant to use pdf-creator in Crossover, not purely Wine. That's what happens when you have a 4 year old nephew on your lap while typing.
That being said, I just tried it with MS Word out of curiousity... and I was bored. No point to trying it! Although pdfcreator installs fine, it doesn't work, and I have no Idea why. It show up as a printer, you can press print, and nothing happens. It won't damage anything though, so if you still want to try, I'm not aware of any harm.
I don't have any other good suggestions for now. Maybe something on sourceforge.net could do it for you? Just for good mesure, the codeweavers instructions for cups-pdf is here ( http://www.codeweavers.com/support/wiki/mac/faq/printfromcrossover ). You might have tried those exact instructions, but I didn't know where you picked up the info, so I didn't want to leave things to chance.
I'm curious to find a way to solve this, so I find anything that actually works, I'll let you know.
I am already using CUP_PDF as my PDF printer in Mac apps, but I had missed were the default folder for CUP-PDF was.
The output will be in ''/Users/Shared/CUPS-PDF/"' in a folder with your user account's name. Feel free to make an alias to the "CUPS-PDF" folder and put it on your desktop for easier access (note that you'll need to make an alias of "CUPS-PDF", not "CUPS-PDF/username").
I ran a test print and it is working. Now I just need to figure out how to get it to use an oversized paper size. I have made a 'Custom -sized" paper, which works in the Autocad 2012 for Mac trial I have, but I have not figured out how to get the Autocad LT 98 under CrossOver to allow me to use it.
One, maybe there is a "page format" setting in your Autocad software. It might be in the autocad's "file" menu or something similar. If you set the page size, maybe that will make the format appear in the print menu later. I don't know this, I'm just speculating.
One 'glitz' I have found is that the text edit window does not show correctly.
Anyone have any ideas....???
