I'm trying to install the program "Americas Cardroom". It's a poker site. It's a simple .exe file. Anyways, after I install it, I double click the application and application appears in the dock. After about 4 seconds, the application will disappear from the dock. I install it by selecting the "other application". I then select the .exe file from my desktop. After that I use a winxp bottle. I've tried vista, etc - doesn't work. When I am installing the program itself, it is put into the program files of the /c drive. I don't think the location matters, but I've tried other places and it doesn't work.
Just a disclaimer, I'm a linux guy, on a linux machine, but some things translate well to Mac...
It seem that the only thing needed by "Cardroom" is MS Visual C++ 2005. To install it, just do like you would to install any other windows software, then when choosing what to install look in the "Runtime support components" and look for the Visual C++ 2005 librairy. Make shure you chose the same bottle as "cardroom" for this to work. If it is anything like on my system, the software should start, download a few extra things, and just open up shortly after.
Nah, the order of install doesn't matter. I installed cardroom first to figure out what was wrong, but I doubt it will make a difference. I didn't really fully test the software, for lack of time, but it seems to run fine.
Hey, sorry to bother you again.. but... I've encountered another slight problem. It seems that when I try to go to the deposit page, other pages, etc, another window opens and it seems to load very slowly or not at all. I'm wondering if there might be more software that I need to download from the runtime section. I'm just wondering where did you see that it says it needs the Microsoft visual basic 2005 from before? Maybe it says some more stuff on the site. I can't find it on the website.
Well, actually I used "launch a windows command" in my crossover menu and asked for a debug log. From there it appeared that msvcr80.dll was concerned and that is part of Visual c++ 2005. So the info didn't come from a website or anything, I found out just south of trial and error.
I won't have time to look further today, as my truck is requiring my attention since rust ate a part out. But maybe next evening, I'll get around to test the software further.
Mind you, maybe you should open a support ticket as your problem might exceed my knowledge. Taking in account that we run to very different OS, Codeweaver staff might have a better understanding of what is going on with the "slowness". I'm not saying I'm not willing to help, just that you might have a solution faster then by my help.
Oh and you should give the link to this forum post in the ticket to get them up to date.
...when I try to go to the deposit page, other pages, etc, another
window opens and it seems to load very slowly or not at all...
...pretty much all these card games are rebadged versions of
the same software -- trying to go to the 'deposit' page or
anything else will instigate a http(s) request via a web browser.
You will either need to install IE7 in the same bottle, or,
set the bottle to use your native browser by default....
