Baldur's Gate - GoG Version on Crossover v11.2.2 Demo

Hi!

I'm evaluating the Crossover v 11.2.2 demo to see if I should purchase it. I have quite a few games from GoG.com & that's my main reason why I want to try Crossover on my Mac.

I've tried installing the Baldur's Gate of GoG. I've used both the normal way of installing (creating a BG bottle) & using the run command on the bottle. Both times, I get the BG startup screen (with the several options to play, change configurations, etc.). When I select play, all I get is a black screen & it seems that my Mac just hangs. I need to power off & power on to use my Mac again.

My Mac is a MacPro 2 x 2.4 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon, with 8 GB RAM, running Lion 10.7.5 & an ATI Radeon HD 5870 graphics card.

Any assistance on how to get BG to run would really be appreciated. Thank you in advance for any help on this.

The first thing I'd try is to set up the bottle you're using for BG to run in an "emulated virtual desktop", which is a window defined by Crossover (but the game still "thinks" it's fullscreen, this often helps stabilize graphics problems). To try this, go to Crossover's Configure>Manage Bottles menu, highlight the bottle in question, then go to Control Panel>Wine Configuration>Graphics. Check "emulate virtual desktop", then set the desktop size to a sane 4:3 aspect ratio such as 1024x768, then "apply", "ok", and try launching the game, again. Any difference?

Hi Jack,

Thanks for the advise. It worked! 😀

On my way now to purchase Crossover!

Best regards, Vic
