Beginner Help Please.

I have just purchased CrossOver and, so far, I have not used it.

My computer is a new 13" Apple MacBook Air running Mac OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion.

I wish to use a Windows app called AntiqueSoft on my Mac but as yet this app is unapproved by CrossOver although I have submitted it for approval and it's no. 23 out of 27 at the moment. I have not yet downloaded AntiqueSoft.

As a complete beginner can someone please tell me (in layman's terms!):

1) Can I still try to use AntiqueSoft even though it is unapproved?

2) If yes, how do I go about downloading it and using it with CrossOver?

Hi there,

1) yes you can try it, it doesn't have to be in the database first, so go ahead :) just remember once it has been approved to say if it works, how you got it to run etc.

2)
a) Download how you would on a Windows computer (I'm guessing you've already bought a license?)
b) Open Crossover and click 'Install Software'
c) In 'select application to install', choose 'Other Application' (near the bottom of the list)
d) choose the installer exe file
e) create a new bottle called 'AntiqueSoft' or whatever
f) Click Proceed!

(this process works with app game which isn't in the database, which has an installer exe not just an exe you click on to run)

*There may need to be other things installed, but let's go with this for now

Okay, just downloaded the demo, aaaand it's the aforementioned 'exe that you click on to run the program not an installer one'.

So, scrap what I said before in 2) and do this instead:

In Crossover, in the menubar, go to Configure: Manage Bottles.
Create a new bottle called whatever you want (a windows XP bottle is fine).
Next, go to Programs: Run Command- a box should pop up.
In 'Use Bottle', select the bottle you just created.
In 'Command', select the AntiqueSoft.exe file, wherever you put it.
Click Run.

The program should then run- I just tried the demoif it does, go back to the Run Command box and click 'Save Command to Programs Menu'
A Finder window should appear after a short while with an app named 'AntiqueSoft', and in the Programs menubar bit of Crossover AntiqueSoft should also be there.

Et voila! There you go.

Edit:

If you don't like it being in full-screen mode, then you can put it into windowed mode:

Go to Manage Bottles again.
Select the AntiqueSoft bottle.
On the right-hand side, go to Control Panel.
In the section below, select 'Wine Configuration'.
Go to 'Graphics' in the window that appears.
Tick 'Emulate a virtual desktop' and enter your desired size.
Click Apply and then OK.

That should make the app run in a window now.

Hope I helped!

Thank you Alex. I will try your suggestions out later on and report back.

Hello,

I have similar problem with installation, I try to install application called ASPI - it's official application with Czech legislation, I have .exe file downloaded from official websites and recommended by ASPI's support team.

I tried both ways of installation you described, in both cases the installation is successfully finished BUT I can't open the app. When I run cross over and click on Run installed software, I don't see the application I have installed.

Please can you help me?

Thank's a lot. Marika

I'm not familiar with that software; could you provide a link to its website?

But it's in Czech...
