Hi,
I am trying to install a windows application that isn't an installer. In other words, Crossover launches the application itself while installing since the application isn't an installer. Is there a way to mask the application as an installer or do something else to install it?
I'm not a support ninja, but you can just invoke the .exe in question by going to CrossOver's Program menu, and selecting Run Command from the drop-down. You can then designate which bottle you'd like to run the .exe from, and then point CrossOver at the .exe in question. By doing so, you don't need to install the application, per se--you simply run the .exe, and it would do what it normally does under Windows. Hope that helps.

You can do this, but is much faster dragging the exe onto the CrossOver dock icon, isn't it? I use lots of portable apps, and having to open the menu, select the application, see if it works and if it does doing it again to add the shortcut is really time-consuming...
On august i contacted You (CodeWeavers) about this and they told me that is due to "the change of the default behavior since most folks double click the exe intending to install it insted of running it".
I asked if they could add a setting to choose the default behavior or a keyboard shortcut to switch behavior on the fly... So far i haven't got any news, but i'm not sure i'll get some in case the developers adds such a feature... Maybe i'll simply find it in the release notes... I'll be really happy if this could happen since i don't think it should be that hard to implement, especially the keyboard shortcut one - at least easier than detecting if an exe is an installer or a standalone app, i suppose - but of course i'm sure you have higher priority issues to fix/add...
Cheers!
Luca

What version of CrossOver are you using? This behavior has changed in more recent versions of CrossOver.
