LivePerson Expert Messenger

The site says there's a menu bar by the clock that allows you to login and out of chat room availability (not the one in the bottom bar, right-hand side), but I'm not seeing it.

Also, the system keeps booting me off, without warning.

Can anyone help?

Hi, I just discovered Crossover today, and I have to say I am a little miffed that it's no longer free :( If there's any way I can purchase it for a little bit of a discount or something, that might be better. If I'm being honest, I gotta say I've been shopping around for a serial key / registration number on the internet and I should find one before too long. It's just what I do when I find a program worth having, but not quite worth paying a weeks pay for...

You don't have to be miffed just become a Advocate for Codeweavers Crossover and you can use it for free.

First, you're highjacking a forum thread, and you could have started your own. By the way, if you "just discovered Crossover", how can you say "that it's no longer free". Fishing for something? If your admission to piracy is an attemp to get a better price, you should know most decent humans don't respond well to threats, and I doubt you will succeed.

Second, you're admitting to have a tendency to pirate software, and you might want to rethink that. It's just not good for you to admit such things, in particular if it's a very public admission.

Third, you could effectively become an advocate, but I fail to see how someone with your mindset could help promote this software. If you don't think it's worth the price, how could you really promote it? I question this based on your words mind you...

Fourth, paying for Crossover also supports the Wine project, which in turn help Crossover. Think of paying for crossover as a way to invest in Wine, which is better than paying for Windows. The investment is well worth it, but even if you disagree, admitting to piracy is still not a good idea.

Fourth, Wine is free and shall always be so, but doesn't have a GUI to install things. Try Play On Linux (http://www.playonlinux.com) if you don't want to pay for anything and still want a GUI. Don't expect the same support/quality you would find here. And, to my knowledge, they don't contribute back to the Wine project, unlike codeweavers.

Um, back to my thread. Here is what Live Expert says about me getting logged off repeatedly :

Q. My status gets changed from available to unavailable without warning.
A. There is a setting on the Expert Messenger which will cause your status to change to unavailable after being idle for a certain number of minutes. If you do not want this to happen, you can untick this option.

In order to do so, please click on the Expert Messenger icon and go up to options. The first option under the "General" tab will say "Set my status to Not Available after XX minutes of inactivity." Untick this option if you do not wish for your account to set itself Not Available while you are idle.

I do not see the Expert Messenger menu anywhere on my desktop, aside from the dock, and that icon gives me no options aside from removing it from the dock, etc. How do I toggle this button, and how do I see this menu?

Thanks.

I tried downloading the software, but I think I didn't sign up for the right kind of account, so if you have a valid download link I could use to get the software legally, please give it. Otherwise, I'll try again...

That being said, from the system requirements (http://www.liveperson.com/Help/help-answers.aspx?ID=142&level=2) , I understand that the "Expert Messenger" requires a browser of some kind.

So to dig further, what browser did you install along side of the Expert Messenger software?

If you did not install a windows browser, your installation might be incomplete. You must have a Windows version browser in the same bottle as Expert Messenger. In the absence of a browser, this might lead you to have problems running the software, even more so getting to options.

Expert Messenger recommends ie7 or later, but ie7 is rated as bronze, so that might not be the best choice. In my experience, Firefox works well with Crossover and you can find the windows version in the language of your choice here (http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all.html).

... http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=version&iId=17950 ...

.. be aware, that IE7 is not 'just another browser' like Firefox etc ;
IE7 provides certain win32 system wide components that other apps may
rely on, that are -not- provided by other win32 browsers..

... I found the above link on winehq ; I believe it references the same
connection issue mentioned here, and going by the snippet of trace on
the winehq page, you may well need IE7 installed, (which provides a win32
native wininet.dll), and then by the looks of things you should try applying
a winelib override of wininet=native.builtin via winecfg...(I've seen
that error before with other apps and such usually clears it)...

...at a guess, the app has other dependencies that might explain a bit
more why it's behaving badly - you would need to grab a debuglog as per ;

http://www.codeweavers.com/support/wiki/mac/mactutorial/submittechsupportlog

... and just put +trace,+loaddll in the 'Other:' stringbox area ; these
channels are enough to see what's going on....upload the logfile somewhere,
post the URL to it back here, it may turn up a clue ; I've no idea about the
launch/menu item business -- sometimes enabling 'emulated virtual desktop'
mode in winecfg allows those things to display themselves (else, it may be
a missing dependency causing it)....

.

...lastly, it's rather sad that your thread was somewhat hijacked temporarily ;
although I'm a "Clayton's Moderator" around here (the moderator you're having
when you're not having a moderator =), I don't have a big-red-button for this
area...but... if I did, I think I would've nuked the above thread by 'Justin',
-before- the other advocates replied to same, if for no other reason than to
keep things on topic....

@ Anthony, Jean-Patrick ... believe me, I do know you're only trying to help,
but sometimes it's lots easier to ignore one post that's going to be deleted,
than it is to create further postings about the off topic ..<grin>.. and for
myself, I'm none too sure I'd like 'that sort of person' among us advocates
anyway -- it'd be tantamount to giving the thief more tools, for free, so as
to further their crime(s)...ie; if they're prepared to pirate cx, chances are
that not the only software they intend to treat the same way...in any event,
if you ignore such postings, and just email info@codeweavers.com about their
existence, the Ninjas will use their buttons to fix things -- like, I may ask
for these last 2 paras to be nuked as well, but that depends on whether it's
now appropriate to nuke your replies as well as the offending post - many times,
replying to a 'rogue' post just complicates the 'quick fix', you see? B^)...

Message understood and noted as to rogue posts...

I didn't look at the WineDB, but here the software is user rated as "gold" with Crossover 11:

http://www.codeweavers.com/compatibility/browse/name/?app_id=6441;details=1

Is it possible to ask the details of the install this guy did? Even if it's under Linux, the details might give Magi the answer needed to get the sofware working.

Also, I'm well aware of the nature of IE7 as "different" from other browsers. It is well known that MS keeps some "secrets sauce" that sets IE apart from other browsers. I should have better underlined to try IE7 first, you're right about that.

Anyway, if you read the requirements, IE7 and up is "recommended" but other browsers are "supported". It seems to me that the support staff is trying to limit the variations they will have to handle. So, trying Firefox might not be entirely futile if things don't go well with IE7.

It seemed a bit much to move this secondary conversation to another thread, here, but to chime in on this point really briefly:

The Advocate program is more than just "getting stuff for free", as Jean-Patrick has said. Our advocates put time and effort into working with their advocated programs in order to help each other, our larger user community, and even our staff use these programs. Their work is quite valuable to us, as we don't have any where near enough staff to cover the ground that our advocates cover.

Please keep this in mind. Also note that we do regularly cull advocates who signed up, got their free stuff, and were never heard from, again. It's not fair the people who actually participate in the program to allow abuse of it.

Anyway, I'm not singling you out, personally (we know you contribute!), so much as re-iterating an important point re: the Advocate system.

Cheers.

I have had similar issues and more while using LivePerson Messenger, which I posted aeons back, let's just say I gave up, and was using it on a Windows laptop after that. Now I have stopped being an Expert, because the whole process became too much of a bother, so haven't tried with the new release of Crossover. I know this doesn't help, but just saying, I know where you are coming from!

And I have a MacBook, so I tried this for Mac, not Linux, and the Gold rating is for Unix.

LivePerson Messenger works PERFECTLY when installed via the CrossTie on CrossOver Mac 12.

Go try it.

Just click on the little square within the Logo, a new menu will pop up.

See where my cursor is. Then click on Login As and log in. When the client calls, it will come in a proper window, like this.

Just did it today, so very confident it works.
