Hi all,
Not sure exactly where to put this, so thought I'd start here... There is a general need of many U.S. government users to be able to sign documents using a CAC card on the Mac. Unfortunately, this process is windows specific, namely:
- ActivClient middleware -- base smartcard support for Windows
- Silanis ApproveIt / E-Sign software -- essentially an API for adding digital signatures to a document
- Lotus Forms - the client which uses the ApproveIt API
The odd thing is all three of these pieces actually install on Crossover just fine, but without underlying smartcard support, the point is moot.
Googling smartcard support indicates that historically there's been some movement to add this to wine, even some patching from way back. I think this is a very worthwhile area to pursue, as currently the only way Mac users can sign documents is to Boot Camp / VM a Windows installation.
As the software installs and runs "correctly", I'm not sure exactly how to go about putting it in as a wishlist item.
Thanks in advance for any recommendations,
Dion
