Im not sure if this is the right area to post this but I am trying to install a small game on my mac. The problem is I want to use a custom .exe to start the game so I can use a mod. I removed the old .exe (which didnt end in a .exe but i assumed it was the .exe) and put mine in but when i tried to open it, it said that it was going to try and use it as an installer or something so I stopped. Next I went up to "programs/run command/" found the directory of my .exe and used the same bottle I used to install the program and hit "run" and it retured with an error 53.
If anyone out there could help me I would be greatly appreciative
Honestly, in the windows world, it's more common that executables are "exe", but I guess that for java or python software, they could be something else. In any case, one thing for sure is that replacing a file that doesn't end with exe, with a file that has a exe extention, will lead to something being busted. Making assumptions, without seeing the exe extention, is probably wrong. You probably deleted some file needed by your software, while just dumping the exe you had.
If you have a custom exe for your mods, you have to replace an existing exe, period. Anything else won't work. At this point, I don't really know what else I could tell you, as error 53 is rather non-descript.
You should probably enable logging in the "Debug Options" section of the "Run Command" dialog. Don't enable any logging channels. Hopefully, something obvious will show up in the log.
