"save command to programs menu" ...doesn't

I am new to Crossover for Mac. I'm trying it for the fourteen day period, and also looking at a couple of other options. So far, Crossover does the best job for those few Windows games I want to run on my Mac. That's all to the good.

Here's my question. For one game, Birth of the Federation, I want to add a parameter to the end of the trek.exe command line to enable a few Easter eggs in the game. I can do it using the Run Command feature in Crossover and it works flawlessly. What I'd like to do is save a couple of steps and use the "save command to programs menu" feature. However, every time I try, the parameter is not saved, only the exe command itself. I searched and found that others on this forum have encountered this issue, but I have yet to find a possible solution or response. Getting this to work would be the final thing to convince me to buy Crossover! Thanks for your help.

Hmmm;
How bout an old DOS trick, write a .bat file

name it say 'birthfed.bat'
give it one line: Trek.exe params
you may need to give the full command line address for the exe
save and try that

I hadn't thought of that! (And it hasn't been a month yet since I left Windows for OSX!) It took a couple of attempts using Notepad, but I finally got the right combination. It was simply trek parameter, with the bat file in the same folder as trek.exe. So, for anyone else with this issue, try a bat file. (To the BatFile, Robin!)

what about - 'create a launcher'

  • from bottle tab - run command - create launcher

    • put any extra commands after the url, to the EXE
  • place the launcher onto your desktop.
