I've just bought Crossover 24 for Mac, and also bought SW Empire at War from Steam, as that what Crossover said was compatible, for some nostalgia.
However, having never used Crossover before, I've installed it fine, how do I get the installer file off Steam so I can point Crossover to it to install on my iMac?
After you install Crossover on your Mac, in the bottom left corner of the app screen you will see INSTALL. Click on that and the screen will populate with many games. One of those should be the Steam app. If not, type STEAM in the small search bar to find Steam and then Crossover will download the the installation file and install the Windows version of Steam. Then, when you log into your Steam account and go to your library, it should show the game (assuming you purchased it through Steam.
Steam requires you to run the Steam client. If you are going to run a Steam game intended for the Windows operating system and you're going to run that game in Crossover, you must have the Steam client and that game in the same bottle.
You should have only one Windows application in each bottle. In the case of games which require some other application to run, such as anything from Steam, you should have only the game and whatever application it needs to run and nothing else. Again, in the case of Steam, for some other game you should create another bottle for the Steam client and that one game.
Although Steven's advice is OK, you should use the Crossover Crosstie to install your game if it is available. Type in the name of the game and if it tells you that it is going to install the Steam client for you, proceed to do that. The Crosstie will make sure your bottle has all the components required by that specific game and the bottle settings will be optimized for that game on your system. If you just use the Crosstie for the Steam client, the bottle will not be configured specifically for the one game you are going to install into that bottle and you'll have to research what extra components are required and what bottle settings are best.
Another question. When I chose SW empire, it chose Win XP 32 bit for is base.
However SW empire, now has an update patch, that covers the game to 64 bit.
I know you can choose to change the base, but it says I shouldn’t, as I presume it’s looking at the base game, which is 32 bit before the patch.
Should I choose Win XP 64 bit and install the base game then the update patch?
Got it running thanks!!
Now I need to know if I should enable ay advanced settings, and also not sure if the bottle is 32, or 64bit, I think with the patch it should allow 64bit which may run better on my Apple m1 iMac?
