is there a way for crossover to install a windows printer driver?
i have tried finding a linux driver for dell 966 printer, but it doesn't exist.
i've been told that crossover can't do this task, as it requires lower level hardware access.
however, it seems that the task can be done by others to some degree, so crossover might really want to look into it, as they are serving the same market.
There's some work going on in Wine, partially on our account, to get this going. Printer drivers usually do not need low level hardware access. Most of them either write to a network printer(no issue), to a parallel port(no issue, can be emulated and wrapped to /dev/lp0 or USB(the same).
The trouble with printer drivers is that most of them need a DIB engine, as well as some interfaces that do not exist yet. SuSE has a printer driver wrapper that gets drivers working that do not need a DIB engine, and a DIB engine is planned after the Wine 1.0 release.
