Hi, I've noticed that my screen flickers a lot when opening/closing/installing windows apps. For example when using microsoft word, the screen flickers when opening the program, closing the program and when saving files. I am using Ubuntu 8.10, the problem exists with and without desktop effects. I have an intel integrated 915 graphics card.
It's not much of a problem, more of an annoyance as the flickering only lasts about 10 seconds but I'd love to know if there's a fix for it.
This can be caused if you have an external TV out on your computer, X11 might be checking for a signal on there when launching a Windows app. Try disabling the TV out and see if the flicker stops.
