System Shock Remake used to work perfectly in Crossover but now I'm getting a "Fatal Error" (D3DMetal, Msync) when running the game. Got any idea how to make it run? Same error occurs in the 24.0 and 23.7 Crossover versions.

If it's on Steam, tried creating a new Steam bottle?
Yeah I did, no dice. It works okay through Whisky but it's strange that Crossover has this issue. It feels like the version 24 completely broke my Crossover and even using the older version I still got installed no longer works properly...
Yeah, same.
Looks like v24 introduced some bugs in Steam.
Hi,
I confirm that the GOG version also stopped working (fatal error). So... any workaround?
I just tried testing this game the other day. I'm gonna try running it on an older version. It's a good thing this forum exist.
just adding to the pot. I have the GOG version and it was running fine until today when I updated crossover to 24.0.1.
Seems to be running on DXVK tho, but D3DMetal crashes with Fatal Error sadly.
I am experiencing the same problem also with the latests updates using D3DMetal. And with older versions (23.7.X) there are systematic crashes after starting the game ("Fatal error"). The game does not launch with DXVK.
So, any news or workaround?
Thanks
I just bought it during the Cyber Monday sales.
I just did a test for The System Shock Remake on Crossover 24.0.5 (24.0.5.37094).
When set to D3DMetal, you will get a Blank screen followed by 'Fatal Error'.
When set to DXVK, it's able to launch the game. I got a Blank screen (no Citadel Station), but I still have the Foreground game selection.

I had exactly the same issue with Trepang2 (https://www.codeweavers.com/support/forums/general/?_gl=1%2A1glrb88%2A_gcl_au%2AODIzMDkwNDIyLjE3MzI2Mzk1NDguMTM5NTg0MDAzNC4xNzMzMjQ0MjY0LjE3MzMyNDQyODU.%2A_ga%2ANjQ1MjQwNDY3LjE3MzMyNDQxODg.%2A_ga_FFHF2Y4YVB%2AMTczMzI2OTQ1MS40LjEuMTczMzI2OTQ1OS41Mi4wLjE3ODg3MDY3NTM.;t=27;msg=314197). Using CX Patcher solved the issue for me.
In Crossover 24.0.5 the demo is playable with WineD3D/MSync but the frame rate can drop a lot in several places. 14-60 fps at 1440p Medium. Lowering the resolution doesn’t help much. Rare graphical glitches can occur. Black screen with D3DMetal and ”Fatal error”. With DXVK long black screen at first and then a frozen menu appears with audio in background. Win 10/Steam bottle, Mac Studio M1 Max 24c, 32 GB, macOS 14.7.1.
In Crossover Preview the demo runs well with D3DMetal/MSync, 38-90 fps at 1440p High/Ultra. Lowering the resolution doesn’t help much. With DXVK black screen with only working UI, HUD and sound. With WineD3D halft the performance. Win 10/Steam bottle, Mac Studio M1 Max 24c, 32 GB, macOS 14.7.1.
I posted this on my rating for 24.0.4 a while back, but just to post it here. Similar to the Humang's experience, I was able to get the game working only with wined3d. For those that don't know, that means turning off both d3dmetal and dxvk. I had a playable framerate, although I wouldn't say it was perfect (didn't benchmark it). But one thing I did run into was after about an hour of play time in the game, my save files would start crashing with another Fatal Error. This sounds like a common issue, even for Windows users. You can look on a Steam forum here if you want to see more (warning, it devolves into garbage posting at some point):

The take-away I got was it was related to the game switching to needing AVX support. I'm sort of holding an outside hope that the new GPTK might help avoid this issue, but I haven't tested with the preview yet.
