How Do you upgrade to the latest version of Wine in Crossover?

I want to have the latest version of wine in Crossover 9.0.1. How do I do that? Can I?

Hi,

In short, no - you can't run the mainstream wine
core in crossover, due to all the specific tweaks and
patches codeweavers add/include in their build of wine.

The longer, more succinct answer is probably yes, you
perhaps might be able to do this (seeing as the source
code is available)..but...you'd have to diff out all the
tweaks/patches from that source code...which probably
won't apply cleanly to a newer wine source tree, so you'd
have to rework all those diffs to suit, and...then you'd
have to do a function call check to check all those tweaks
and patches will still work/are needed in a newer wine tree
(because changes in a newer wine tree might stop them from
functioning and/or some of the codeweaver's tweaks might
already be implemented, but that is not to say they will be
implemented in the same way, which means there may well be a
a need to code/recode some other part of the diff/patches
..or make a new patch altogether...to end up with something
that actually works). This is typically the sort of horror
show that would be involved here - this is nowhere near as
enjoyable as the 'Rocky Horror Picture Show'...<grin>...

Personal note here is....every time I consider/answer a question
like this, it reminds me of what outstanding value the crossover
products represent -- getting this amount of professional coding
expertise/time/testing for the annual license price of codeweaver's
products, represents -very- good value for money IMHO...

Cheers!
