The subject states the basic facts:
I couldn't find any specific instructions for installing Ver 9 Pro over my Ver 8 Standard, so I just tried installing from the RPM. I didn't notice any error messages as the install proceeded. The only application I had installed under the previous version was IE7, which still works, but, when I started it I got a message about creating a new XP bottle. After a few moments, it seemed to succeed and IE opened as previously. I thought I'd then explore some of the other new features, and was surprised to find the Crossover menu item and all its contents gone - I'm running KDE Desktop 4.1

I had the same problem on Mandriva KDE4. I reinstalled as root user and the menus came back.
The problem lies with KDE and version 4.

You should be able to install the new version of Crossover over top of the existing version. On Fedora, the best method is

$ sudo yum install /path/to/thecrossoverinstaller.rpm

There is a known bug in Crossover whereby if you have both CX Games and CX Standard/Pro installed on the same KDE system, you'll only get menu items for one of them. Very annoying, and we're fixing it. Perhaps you're running into this issue?
