Linux noob here, I'm currently running on an Athlon 64 X2 5400 CPU with a GeForce 8800 GT 512mb. The system is generally fast, but before I delete my Win7 partition, I wanted to see if there was any worth while replacement systems out there...
Ideally, I like to play games like Team Fortress 2, Half-life series, World of Warcraft, and really anything on Steam :D
Anything after $600 to me is too pricey at the moment, so I'd definitely be interested in barebones!
How does something like this sound?
AMD Phenom X4 9750 Quad Core Processor
Asus M2N68-AM PLUS Motherboard
Counter Strike Source: 70-120 fps (settings very high)
Left 4 Dead : 50-80 fps (settings high, no AA possible)
Left4Dead 2 : 30-75 fps (settings high, no AA possible)
Mafia 2: 18-40 fps (settings low)
Half Life 2 (and the episodes): 70-100 fps (settings very high)
GRID : 30 fps (settings middle, some high)
Hitman Blood Money: No idea, feels like at least 80 fps (highest settings)
....
Could continue this list the whole day. All on an E8400 (Dual @ 3,0), 3 GB Ram, Sparkle 8800 GTS (512 mb).... I think there is no need to buy you a new pc. Go to a nice place and grab yourself some hookers, the money would be better invested....
