For work I use windows software and on their website they give out a dmg file for Mac users but it uses wine. Would using crossover on the .exe file give performance increases or better battery vs this dmg wine file? or would it be the same since crossover is using wine?
Sorry for the dumb question. Do you think crossover would be worth while purchase for me in this scenario
Crossover is a version of WINE. What I'm wondering about your DMG is whether you installed the programs on there or whether you're trying to run right off the DMG. If the latter, try installing on your computer rather than running off the DMG. I would imagine you will get better performance.
And of course Crossover is free to try, so if what I suggested doesn't work, try installing your app using Crossover and see how it goes before buying it.
would be better than using crossover to do it on the dmg or the windows .exe file in regards to battery life or cpu usage
on the website of the software it says:
1. We have significantly optimized platform operation under Wine on macOS and Linux:
Fixed display of emails, news, chats, as well as of Signals and Market sections.
Fixed refreshing of "Navigator" contents in MetaEditor.
Improved display of icons on the toolbar.
Fixed chart print commands.
Fixed One Click Trading panel display.
The updated dmg package includes additional components enabling more stable and faster operation
Sounds like they've done their homework and created a customized WINE bottle. Why don't you install the app as provided and benchmark it regarding response time, battery use, etc? And then install it a second time using Crossover and benchmark that. Then you'll know 😊
Going of the provided information they state there mac client is using crossover-sources compile to run the software so I’d assume the performance and battery life would be similar unless they’ve used an older crossover-sources version.
Just add up the numbers in each column and decide what your priority is. Ideally, you'd like to choose the version that has the least impact on both CPU and memory. But the numbers here are equivocal: one is heavier on memory, the other is heavier on the CPU.
Keep in mind that just starting the app and taking a performance snapshot isn't completely indicative of performance. You'll have to use the app for a bit and see if it performs as you expect. If it were me, I'd install the customized bottle from the developer (what you've labeled as DMG). The snapshot you've provided shows that the custom bottle from the developer is lighter on your CPU (which also means it will use less energy). If it works for you, great. If not, try re-installing with CrossOver.
No it doesn’t, a good example is FF client as that’s currently worse then running the Windows client under CX21 (still requires a macOS license)
It’s possible a newer FF wrapper is being worked on but isn’t ready yet, still as explained above this depends on the contract Square has with CodeWeavers.
