I run Ubuntu 8.04 (Hardy) and recently got the trial version of CrossOver Games. I only want it to run Guild Wars, but I'm having a few problems. I use an on-board Intel graphics chip, and I know it runs guild Wars perfectly (I used to run Windows XP on this machine with Guild Wars). However, when I try run it on Linux it just hangs - the box appears at the bottom to say GW is running, but nothing else happens. To close it, I have to force quit.
I've noticed a few other threads regarding Ubuntu 8.04 and Guild Wars, but none of them seem to help me with my problems. Any ideas anyone?
The Linux Intel driver is pretty bad, at least the current upstream version. The current driver is way too slow to run any game that is more complex than tuxracer, if the game runs at all.
A lot of development is going on on this driver, but no distro ships the development versions since they are highly experimental. I recommend to check some information and driver information on dri.freedesktop.org, or wait for the development driver to go upstream(might take a while though)
