The most excellent ajackson from the Ubuntu forums, has now altered his LOTRO Linux Launcher to support Crossover (games and office) so cxgamers can now enjoy LOTRO :)
What the LOTROLinux launcher does is takes the place of the .net2.0 based launcher for the game, it logs you in, then loads the game through wine (and now crossover too)
Not sure if the launcher can be compiled to run in OSX on the mac, as I don't have a mac I have no way to find out.
Of course once wine and crossover support .net better this launcher won't be needed, but it's great that we can play now. I don't have to pay a monthly fee either, I got one of the lifetime accounts that you could get as a founder member..though I believe they recently opened up that option for other people too now.
It's even better if you live outside the US and your currency is stronger than the dollar :D I live in the UK but play the US LOTRO, because I could get the lifetime for $199 which was only £100 in UK cash..wheras the european LOTRO was £199 :D
Now that LOTRO is stable under wine & Crossover I'm adding a section to http://www.lotrolinux.com that will store working UserPreferences files and a bit about the machines (graphics cards, etc). Hopefully when this builds up it will prove to be a useful resource to people having problems.
Hey Alan, nice to see you post here :)
