ESO stopped working after latest patch

Hi

Have been using Crossover for about a month or so now with no issues at all, but the latest ESO patch has caused an issue.

The update downloaded and installed, but now when I get to click 'Play' on the launcher I get an error message from Crossover.

The message isn't coming from Steam/ESO launcher, so not really sure what to do. I've copied and pasted the error msg below, sorry for the length.

Appreciate any help or if anyone else has ran into similar problems in the last couple of days since the update on ESO.

Unhandled exception: page fault on read access to 0x00000000 in 64-bit code (0x0000000142022b3e).

I've managed to find some people who have encountered the same problem and fixed it with an update.

My problem is that I have no idea how to get this fix to work via Crossover.

As you can see here: https://forums.elderscrollsonline.com/en/discussion/comment/7435280/#Comment_7435280

Does anyone have any idea how to get something like that to work via crossover? The new release can be found here https://github.com/GloriousEggroll/wine-ge-custom/releases/tag/6.20-GE-1

Reading over the linked thread the problem is SensApi.dll can’t be found.

I see no indication that actually installing Proton-6.20-GE-1 resolved the users issue.

As this issue is also happening on Windows it means it’s an issue on ESO.

there seems to be a lot of people experiencing several related problems - all using older OSs. I think the sensapi issue is related to windows 7.

I don't actually get a sensapi error, I get an error from wine/crossover which says eso64.exe has encountered a problem, and says the application may be unsupported (with a link to winehq)

I've tried a couple of the things they've mentioned that fixed their issues but it still seems broken. Deadlands seems to have killed eso for the timebeing for many people not on the latest windows/mac OS

I'll give this a try again as I have latest of these. I had such terrible mouse lag it was unplayable. I'll check if it's improved.

There is a bug report on WineHQ now which describes the situation in more depth than I can

Hi Bob

Curious to know if you were able to get the game to launch at all?

Yes I tried and got the following backtrace from a launch:

Unhandled exception: page fault on read access to 0x00000000 in 64-bit code (0x000000014202299e).

Isn't ESO a Mac Native game? Why are you running it through crossover?

I do and try alternatives as it's an unstable game. It's better at the moment but that changes. They have stated they will drop Mac support when the Intel Mac players dry up so it's worth trying an alternative.

I also use Stadia which is actually quite good (when the connection is good.)

rant

Bit off-topic, but I don't understand software developers and producers sometimes. If users of a product currently drop off using an Intel Mac, chances are very high that they will come back as a M1 Mac user. Why not try to keep this customer, instead of alienating them by dropping Mac support completely?

It just doesn't make sense to me. Apple literally owns the small, casual game market on iOS. They are trying to make headway into more serious gaming under MacOS, and there's millions of Macs out there. I simply cannot fathom why game developers are often so hostile to the Mac.

Money, numbers, and simple minimal effort. Consider that games get dropped buggy, poorly made, and late every time only to be abandoned almost after release. I doubt anyone cares at these companies about who runs it. Only a huge first day launch for a much cash as possible and run for the hills.
