I just tried installing Neverwinter Nights 2 with Crossover Games on an iMac. It installed into a new bottle fine, but when I try to run it, I get a message saying a required security module cannot be found - so it doesn't run. I assume that means it can't find the disk when it runs, although the disk is still in the drive. It just installed from it.
Also, when I try to update it, I get a message saying no Internet connection can be found.
I had a look at the config of the bottle which should be running NWN2 and it doesn't seem to have a CD drive mapped afaik. Is there a way to add a CD drive mapping to the bottle's config which points to the real CD drive in the iMac please?
I used that and clicked 'autodetect' once the Game disk was in the drive and mounted. The winecfg found the disk, but the game still says no disk in drive.
Looks as if this one is not going to work. Shame they haven't brought out the MotB update in Mac version.
Oh, that's probably copy protection stuff you're bumping into then. Most copy protection systems require very low-level Windows API's to work that aren't present in Wine, or can't be added. And that's all I can legally say about that. :)
That was what I thought. So this is not going to work, thanks to the copy protection system.
I suppose if I could find a No-CD crack, it might run. I realise you are probably not allowed to comment on that. 😖
The other problem I have is that it will not update as it says it cannot find an Internet connection. Is that also likely to be the copy protection? Any thoughts on that please?
FWIW, I updated to the MotB extension - with just the same results. It installed without any problems, but then cannot find an Internet connection in order to update and cannot find the DVD when I try to play.
It seems we are stuck with this game until/unless they bring out the MotB extension for the Mac. 😥
