This has probably been asked before so my apologies, but.... what's the difference between Crossover Games and the regular version of Crossover for mac? I know that codeweavers said they'd try to update the games version more frequently or something like that... but is there anything the games version can't run that the regular version can?
I'm asking because I own the Games version of Crossover, and just tried to install GRE review software from Kaplan. It installs ok, but whenever I try to open it in Crossover Games it gives me a "Run-time error '339', saying that it's missing "Component 'MsgHoo32.OCX' or one of its dependencies..."
Is this something that might work if I were using the regular version of Crossover? Is it typical for non-game apps to perform better in regular crossover?
Crossover Games has been specifically tooled to run better with supported games, whereas CX Office has been specifically tooled to work better with supported office applications. With supported non-game apps, it is absolutely typical for them to run better in CX Office than in Games, and vice versa. For unsupported apps this is still true in general, but it should be looked at on a more app by app basis.
In the case of your GRE review software, I'm not sure if it will run on either. MsgHoo32.OCX is not implemented in either CX Games or Office - you would need to find a way to implement this module (assuming that is the only issue).
When you say I'd have to find a way to implement this module... how would I go about doing that? If I installed the software in boot camp and then found the MsgHoo32.OCX file... would I be able to add a copy of that to the bottle I installed the GRE software in and then get it to possibly run with CrossOver?
basically, yes. But for legal reasons, we cannot tell you exactly how.
