I play a mod for the original Half-Life called Natural Selection, but i'm having real problems getting it to run without locking the entire machine (ubuntu via wubi install)

HL itself seems fine, and I don't recall seeing a single crash despite fairly intensive testing of HL, but within seconds of loading Natural Selection, the machine locks up and needs a hard reset. I've tried varying the screen size, set it to windowed etc. and it does lock the machine(s) completely.

The same happens on at least two physically seperate hardware platforms - a Dell Dimension 5150 and a Toshiba Satellite Pro A60 (the desktop has an ATI X600 card, the laptop a Mobile Radeon 7000).

Any inspiration on resolving it would be most appreciated :-}
