I have installed Warhammer 40k:Dawn of War and I can say that it runs flawlessly so far. The latest patch also removes the CD check, so a NoCD hack is not required to get it running. The expansions still require the CD, but the original game does not. The only glitch is with the installation if you own the 3-CD version rather than the DVD version; when you switch discs, Crossover does not recognize the new disc and the installer hangs. This can be avoided by copying the contents of all three discs to a folder on the hard drive and installing from there.
I can't think of any reason not to officially add Dawn of War to the list of compatible games. You might even consider adding it to the officially supported games.
I have all 4 Dawn of War games and have installed and tested all here is what I have found.
Dawn of War (GOTY edition)
Installs no issues. Didn't see the above mention CD swap issue when installing (I have the 3 cd version)
Once install done you need to run Regedit in the bottle and manually add the CD key to the registry.
Once the game is installed will not run until patched to 1.40 patching to 1.50 removes the need for CD in the drive.
Dawn of War Winter Assault.
As with DOW - manual entry of the cd key required.
Must be installed in the same bottle as DOW
Again patching to 1.50 is reoommended.
Dark Crusade
Installs fine - asks for CD key during install so no need to manually enter key.
Runs ok but patching to 1.2 removes need for DVD
Soulstorm
Installs ok - asks for CD key.
No patch available yet to remove need for CD so no CD hack required otherwise dies silently.
Additional notes:
If you want to use all races in Dark Crusade and Soulstorm then you must install all the games in the same bottle. DC and Soulstorm read the CD keys for all others from the registry so if you have not manually entered the keys for DOW and WA then you will always get an "invalid key" error when entering them.
I have all 4 games installed in the same both using the XP defaults, have had no problems with any of them, even patching was easy. All work fine without modification, other than a no cd for Soulstorm (just waiting for THQ to release an official no cd patch for SS)
I have installed Dawn of War: Soulstorm and the installation seemed to have gone perfectly. However, when I try to play the game an error message telling me to insert the disk and retry pops up. The disk is inside the computer so I don't know what's going on. Can someone please help me?
