Microphone Support in TF2?

Hi,

I haven't had much luck searching through the FAQ, but I was wondering, does TF2 in CrossOver Games support the use of microphones? If so, is there a certain kind of headset that's compatible, or will any one designed to work for Windows do? I'm thinking of buying a headset so I can use the voice chat feature in TF2, but I want to make sure I know it'll work first.

If it does, is it just plug and play with my existing bottle?

Thanks!

Jason

I believe the scenario is best described by one of our developers on this ticket:

http://www.codeweavers.com/support/tickets/browse/?ticket_id=694450;s_subject=;s_body=microphone%20mac%20game;s_author=;s_bug=;s_bug_old=;s_ts1%5B1%5D=1;s_ts1%5B2%5D=1;s_ts1%5B0%5D=2000;s_ts1%5B3%5D=0;s_ts1%5B4%5D=00;s_ts2%5B1%5D=8;s_ts2%5B2%5D=26;s_ts2%5B0%5D=2008;s_ts2%5B3%5D=9;s_ts2%5B4%5D=22;list=;s_status=;s_reason=;ticket_level=;s_ball=;s_assignment=;search=%20Submit%20Search%20#ticket694541

If you would like to be added to the request to get microphones working I suggest you file a support ticket (or send an email to info@codeweavers.com) referencing bug 4398.

Our apologies as this currently not known to work.

Jason,

I am not sure what system you are using, but my microphone works fine in-game on my Macbook Pro.

If you are on a macbook, you need to have a USB microphone and set the audio input in your System Pref > Sound menu to the usb microphone.

Hope that helps.

Hi Evan,

I'm currently running this on a Core 2 Duo aluminum iMac. I know the built-in mic that comes with the iSight was iffy at best, but I wanted to know whether or not the functionality actually worked for USB-based mics. Glad to know that it's working on your end, I'll have to pick up a headset tonight.

Is there anything that's not too expensive that you recommend?

I am using a Plantronics headset, which IIRC wound up costing me about $40 from Circuit City. Your best bet will be to just shop around (if you haven't already) between various computer and electronics stores in your area and see who has the best deal.

USB headsets do tend to run a little more expensive than their analog counterparts, but the prices do seem to be dropping.

Cool, I ordered a Logitech ClearChat Pro from Newegg on sale for $34.99, and it just arrived today. I'll give it a shot either late tonight or tomorrow and let everyone know if it works or not.

Wish me luck!

I got the mic set up, and it runs just as you said! One person said it sounds a little bit staticky, but overall it sounds like it's doing fine. It was set up and worked just like you said Evan, much appreciative for your help! :)

Here's the link for anyone else that's interested in getting a Mic to use with TF2 on your Mac through CXGames:

$34.99 OTD after shipping. :)
