CX Version: 7.0.0-linux
Application: World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade
Distribution: Ubuntu 8.04
Game installs and plays fine however my FPS is very low. If I am in a major city and in a building or something then my FPS is upwards of 120+ But out just simply questing and what not I am lucky to see above 40. This was of course not the case when running Windows and I'm also seeing tearing and poor video quality at distances.
Relevant System specs:
Nvidia 8800GT
4GB RAM
Intel Quad 6600
I have applied all the tweaks from the wiki into my config.wtf and edited the
registry for the FPS boost in the bottle. I did not do an install but copied my
existing install over and have tested rendering to make sure it is running and it indeed is. Any help is appreciated.
If you directly copy over WoW from a Windows install WoW will be set to using D3D, whereas WoW installed in Crossover sets itself to OpenGL mode and performance will be much better.
Thanks for your reply. crossover's wonderful support (I actually mean that .. these guys rock) Already suggested that to no avail .... It's like I'm "capped" at 50 FPS.
Does it really never go above 50 fps, even when you look at the sky or the ground? In that case you maybe have vsync forced in your graphics driver settings. However, if that's the case there isn't really anything to worry about it. 50 fps are perfectly fluent, problems arise when it drops below 40-30 fps.
(Usually you want 60-100 fps in the average situations to have some buffer for heavier situations. The highest fps isn't the problem, the framerates below 30 are the issue. The values vary as well, some people claim that >23 fps is pointless, other people claim they can feel the difference between 90 and 100 fps)
It does drop to 40 or below when I get into heavily populated areas or I have to render large amounts of landscape (like in PvP) .. then it plummets to 30 FPS or below....
60+ FPS you're right, there is no difference that I can see.
Mow mentioned in his first post about config.wtf and registry tweaks in your wiki, but I was unable to find this information. Could you post links to this information please? Also, how would I go about changing WoW to run in OpenGL mode. Thanks.

This is exactly what i wanted to ask....
Actually, I found some of the information - I guess I didn't look hard enough before. :P Look under Compatablility, and go to the World of Warcraft page. Then click on the Tips & Tricks tab.
Many tips there, but I still didn't see anything about registry tweaks. Where can I find out about that?
