I'm using a Logitech MX Master mouse over unified receiver.
I have Logitech Options installed and the mouse side buttons work for going backwards and forwards on web pages in Safari.
However, using Mouse 4 and 5 is not working in games like FFXIV.
Saw a lot of problems regarding keybinding and mouses on FFXIV forums anyway did you use the FFXIV keybinding system or tried using it appling ALT / CMD or CTRL?
It could be also a problem related to key bindings under MacOs so you could try checking if you have enable some accesibility shortcuts with those buttons that ain't permitting them to work properly, check out this guide:
LogiOption+ is quite good now, sadly can accept settings for macOS Apps not for unix executable. I would love to see Logitech to fix this or something from CodeWeavers side. I still want to use buttons on macOS (next/prev screen, fullscreen, exposé...) but able to setup a specific configuration for Crossover games. AS today seems impossible.

Is this a known issue?
Most Logitech mice default their extra buttons to functions such as page up/page down rather than Button 4, Button 5, and so forth. I use a fantastic but very old Logitech MX1000 mouse. I can either use Logitech Control Center to set the buttons to basic Button X values or to other functions. Unfortunately, LCC will not work in later versions of MacOS Big Sur or any version of MaxOS Monterey and Logitech Options will not handle very old devices like my much-loved MX1000 so I need to boot into an older version of MacOS in order to use LCC and program the buttons the way I want, which is for all of them to generate basic Button X values.
With your more modern MX Master Mouse, you can just use Logitech Options to set any of your mouse’s buttons to emulate nearly any function you like. Experiment a bit to find something that your game will detect.
