Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning?

Hello!

Has anyone here successfully installed the beta client in Crossover Games 7.1 thus far? If so, how is it looking?

I'm contemplating pre-ordering it, and wanted to see if I'm potentially taking a risk with my wallet. :)

Cheers,
David

Hi,

I dont`t know if it is helping you, but I successfully runned WAR in native Wine by installing it under Windows and running it with wine. The installer of the beta client it self will perform within COG, but at the moment I can't test if the game would run, because the servers are down till the Open Beta starts.

Cheers Mo! I'm planning on buying WAR and just wanted to check.

Hello.

I downloaded the Open EU Beta and installed it on my MacBook Pro using Crossover Games and it installed without any problems. When I am starting the client I get some error about not being able to reach the patch-server. I am uncertain if that server is online however, since the beta doesn´t start until Sunday. I´ll try again then and report back.

Anyone else using the beta?

I'm also waiting for the patch server to come back online. I'm REALLY hoping I don't need to re-install windows, for WAR.

Anyone successfully started the patching process?

No, that seems a bit tricky. I actually downloaded the patch on my wmvare XP installation and copied it to into my bottle, but that just gave me a blank error. I have been looking around in different config files to see if I could "switch off" the call to the patch-server. That combined with updating the game with wmvare is somthing that might work. Maybe... :P

I am running Crossoer Games 7.1.0 on a MacBook Pro on a 2.5GHz Intel Core Duo with 2 GB RAM

If you rename the warpatch.bin file the game loads up, and then fails on authentication. Mmmm.

RESULT

In order to get the patcher to work, do the following:

1) In the winecfg settings for your WAR bottle, add the library for winhttp.dll and set it to native, bulltin.

2) Google for and download winhttp.dll and copy it into your windows/system32 directory in your WAR bottle.

:D

Thanks, now the patcher works!

The game however, won´t start. :P

I get some Assertion Fails error blinking which forces me to abort. Any ideas?

Yes, just click ignore until it goes away; looks like an unavoidable thing for now.

Next problem I'm having is that, even though my MBP has a 256mb 8600M GT gx card that DOES support Shader v2.0, the client is quitting because it doesn't think it meets the specs, and after checking the log file it's a Shader version issue Currently testing a work around and will update as and when I have more info.

Please note, install DirectX. :P

EPIC VICTORY!!!

If you are a Intel based Macbook Pro user or on a Mac platform where the client is quitting due to your allegedly not meeting the video card requirements, here is the solution!

IMPORTANT: First all of, ensure that the latest version of DirectX 9 is installed in the SAME bottle as Warhammer Online.

From the top menu-bar in Mac OSX, select Programs --> Run Command

Then ensure you have the relevant WAR bottle selected, and enter:

regedit

The regedit window will then open. Now, navigate to:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER
--SOFTWARE
----WINE
------DIRECT3D

You'll see a line in the right hand pane of the regedit window with 'useGLSL', and on the right of it it will say 'disabled', double click on the disabled text and change it to ANYTHING else. I changed it to 'enabled'. Close the regedit window.

Now, close Crossover Games completely, and restart. You should now, hopefully, be able to launch the game successfully.

Thanks for all help so far.

Now, I´m new to this so sorry if I´m asking stupid questions, but, Install DirectX? I´m using Crossover Games for Mac and I assume that DirectX is installed with the bottle? If not, I am surprised that any game works.

Further update.

UserSettings.xml file looks like it needs to be edited directly in order to alter graphics settings. Attempting to move between windowed and fullscreen mode, or indeed just changing resolutions, causes a silent client quit.

Attempting to change to 1280 x 800 in windowed mode now.

UPDATE: Manual changing of graphics settings is possible.

Example...

This is what you'll see towards the top of the UserSettings.xml file by default, post-install.

    <Graphics>
        <Mode window_frame="true" fullscreen="false" />
        <FullScreen width="1440" height="879" bitdepth="32" />
        <Windowed width="1440" height="879" bitdepth="32" />
    </Graphics>

Just change to...

    <Graphics>
        <Mode window_frame="true" fullscreen="false" />
        <FullScreen width="1440" height="879" bitdepth="32" />
        <Windowed width="1280" height="800" bitdepth="32" />
    </Graphics>

Sorry, found that answer myswlf, search first, then ask...

:D

Bear in mind you'll need a download from a non-Microsoft website...the MS site tries to put you through Win XP validation which will fail.

Just had a crash after selecting a server and moving toward to the character selection screen. Investigating...

UPDATE1: Crash is happening at the same point, in both windowed and fullscreen modes. Attempting to drop down to 1024 x 768.

Cannot get past the server selection screen without crashing, bit of a problem!

Checked my Mac OSX logs and the following could be to blame?

08/09/2008 18:53:40 [0x0-0x1b01b].com.codeweavers.CrossOverGames[136] dyld: warning, DYLD_ setting caused circular dependency in /Applications/CrossOver Games.app/Contents/SharedSupport/X11/lib/libGL.dylib

Although that means nothing to me. :S

[0x0-0x1b01b].com.codeweavers.CrossOverGames[136] dyld: warning,
DYLD_ setting caused circular dependency in /Applications/CrossOver
Games.app/Contents/SharedSupport/X11/lib/libGL.dylib

That log line is benign. It always happens when CrossOver or CrossOver Games starts up. It can be ignored.

Unfortunately, that means there's no evidence of why the game is crashing.

Regarding installing DirectX: CrossOver Games knows how to download and install that for you. In CrossOver's preferences, on the Installer Assistant tab, uncheck "Hide service packs and dependencies". Then DirectX will be available in the list of supported packages.

If someone from Codeweaver is monitoring this discussion, I´d like to second that, I got the same error.

Doh! :D

Still looking around for a relevant error in any of the log files. Mmm.

Such a shame as it was potentially a big victory.

I am unsure if this means anything, but it popped up when I was monitoring the Console and started the Warhammer Online client:

Any help?

got to the very same point... And when the game reachs the loading screen after choosing my character, it makes the whole MacOS crashing (beach ball of the death and slow as hell, i need to hard reboot).

Interesting thing, using plain Crossover, it reaches the loading screen, but after it ends loading, it does nothing... it sits there at the loading scree, no disk activy, no debug output in the game logs (it thinks i'm in game...).

I guess it's a problem with pixelshader 3.0 and OSX + crossover since it works on linux.

by adding "OffScreenRenderingMode"="fbo" , i managed to get in game but after moving around, the game crashes after like 10sec of being in game. Performances aren't that great either from what i tried, and the graphics i messed up... But you can see your character (refering to the wine bug on linux). This is on Crossover. On crossover games it crashes directly.

OK, so now the beta is over. Anyone trying the "real" game? I am a bit surprised that WAR hasn´t recieved more votes than it has.

Yes, I put up a response in the WAR thread on the Unsupported section. To summarize the steps I've taken:

-Create a bottle with DirectX
-Create a "Warhammer" directory in my bottle's drive_c
-Copy the contents of the data1 and data2 directories from the DVDs respectively into this directory
-Make the directory writable by the owner
-Copy a winhttp.dll into the windows/system32/ directory
-Tell CrossOver Games to run a windows command, "warpatch.bin."

Game doesn't even start but the patcher, with assertions, will start then die after entering username/password. Using Kubuntu 8.04 64-bit.

Does NOT work at all, very interested in having it work. If anyone's got it running please post how far you got and what steps you took.

Hi,

I've installed the WAR CE just by using the DVD's. It runs. I can patch, login, chose an server and chose and start my char. There is only one thing: I am unable to see my char, also there are many failures in the texture and the lightning and the performance is awful.

What I have done:

->Installed the Game in COG as unsupported software using the war.exe of the DVD
->included the winhttp.dll as described before
->startet the pather (althought many textures of it are missing)
->ignored all Assertion Fails error messages
->patched the game
->started the game

not more, not less.

PS:
I am using an Dell Inspirion 9400 Notebook with an Geforce Go 7800 and Kubuntu 8.0.4

I've followed the instruction in this thread and got it working some what.

There are some texture errors and some objects do not appear properly. There also seems
to be a huge hit performance wise. However it is a good start I certainly put my vote in
for his hopefully it'll be running soon.

For the time being I'm putting up with subpar performance in VMWare can't even get it
to run in Parallels.

Looking forward to seeing the fastest selling MMO of all time supported in CrossOver!

Any current news on this application? Been almost a month and does not seem to be much progress. Really would like to see this native, even if at low settings.

Progress is good for this game.

Normal users can't see them but there are nightly builds that the advocates can use for testing purposes, at present using the nightly build the launcher works (with a few graphical glitches) and the game starts and runs quite well. However there is a bug where the character models (and mobs) appear as a pile on the floor, there is a hack fix that you can use for vanilla wine but I don't know the chances of that making it into wine proper/CXG.

We plan to support the game, but we are still fighting(among other things) the installer.

Alan, can you give me a link to the hack you mentioned?

Stefan Dösinger wrote:

The hack is on one of the bug reports (http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=14608#c31 ) and as for the launcher, you can install the game via cxg/wine but you need to run the war.exe located in the setup/war directory.

You need to override winhttp.dll and d3dx9_34.dll to get the patcher to run (sometimes it doesn't start up so you need to kill the bottle and try again), though you have to run warpatch.bin rather than warpatch.exe (I've had it work twice with warpatch.exe but nearly 100% with warpatch.bin).

Ouw, that hack is not so nice. It pretends that a feature(vertex blending) is supported, although it isn't. Always prone to issues.

On the bright side, MacOS graphics drivers support vertex blending. I am also working on a replacement vertex shader for the fixed function pipeline. This should allow us to emulate vertex blending using shaders, thus fixing the problem properly.

I suspect that the game never uses vertex blending, but there are still many games which insist on having some legacy features available which they never use.

I managed to install War on my Macbook, but I get error when I load the warpatch.bin from command in CrossOver.
The error is "The patch client was unable to retrieve the file [patcher-goa.prod.sig] from the patch server." yada yada. Is this a real patch problem or have I gone wrong somewhere? Done as Alan said and ignored the winhttp.dll, didn't find the d3dx9_34.dll in the WAR bottle library though.

Thanks in advance

Hey I haven't tried to install the game yet but I have both the disks ready to do so. I was just wanting to check up on the status of how this game is going along and if anyone has found fixes to the many bugs I have been reading about. I haven't installed it yet cause I don't want to be completely disappointed. I am on an intel bas macbook pro running leopard.

Thanks all!

Yeah, as soon as this game is working in crossover I'll be purchasing a copy. Of Crossover, I mean.
