I have been cross-testing some applications under Crossover 22.0 and various versions of WINE 7. I've found that many applications are failing or exhibiting various errors or performance issues under Crossover 22 and versions of WINE 7 which are 7.13 and earlier. Most of the applications which are failing or experiencing errors or performance issues under Crossover 22.0 and WINE 7.13 and earlier are working fine under WINE 7.15.
WINE 7.15 is the current wine-devel.
Hopefully, Codeweavers might look at this and consider applying some of the changes from WINE 7.13 to WINE 7.15 into the next point release of Crossover 22. I suspect that would resolve most of the problems being reported by people who were experiencing good performance under Crossover 21.2 but are experiencing issues under Crossover 22.0.
Please note that I have absolutely no idea which changes are responsible for the difference in behavior between WINE 7.13 and 7.15, that is beyond my expertise.
I know most of my older games stopped working in CX22 due to the screen resolution hacks not being applied for external monitors on my M1 Mac mini.
Outside of those older titles I’ve not noticed any other breakages.

Hi, John
Could you please share how to cross test applications with CX22 and different WINE 7.x ?
I guess WINE 7.x refactor 32-bits with PE results in some compatible issues.
I also wonder to test my applications using different WINE 7 version with CX22.

Install MaxOS 10.14 Mojave (or earlier). Do it on an external drive or in a new APFS volume on your main drive if you aren’t already running Mojave and don’t want to mess with your main boot volume. Then install Crossover into that Mojave boot volume. Then use Homebrew to install the version of open-source WINE you want to try. You need to use Mojave (or earlier) because post-Mojave versions of MacOS have no support for 32-bit applications and the base installs of open-source WINE don’t have a 32-bit->64-bit conversion layer for Windows applications as Crossover does.
You can’t change the version of WINE that comes with a particular Crossover release. But you can install as many different versions of Crossover as you like – run only one at a time. Try your applications with the version of Crossover that interests you and then try your application with the version of open-source WINE you chose to install.

The minimum requirement for the brew casks (my packages) is actually macOS Mojave due to an upstream bug that affects all prior versions.
All the macOS wine packages can be downloaded directly from https://github.com/Gcenx/macOS_Wine_builds just ensure to remove the quarantine flag before extracting the archive (use macOS archive utility not keka etc)
Anything below macOS Mojave needs to be built from source with some reverts.

I did not know that, Dean. Thank you!
Anyone seeing older games no longer working really should open tickets so CW staff can look into it more. The resolution hack is only half the problem unfortunately.
