I ran into a strange issue: Steam does not (or at least not always) seem to have write access to my external SSD. Updates of games stall with either the infamous „contents locked“ error message or „disk write error“.
This is strange as I had no such issues when I installed GTA V on the same SSD a couple of weeks ago. The issue started after I deleted GTA V and then did a fresh reinstall of CrossOver and Steam. Since then, I cannot download the GTA V files to the SSD where I put the steamlibrary like last time. However, Steam seems to have write access because it „reserves the disk space needed“ when I start the installation process and I can see that there are actually files written to the steam folders. It just stops downloading after the first few „patch“ files.
As another test, I installed a Windows game in the standard steamlibrary folder on CrossOver‘s „c-drive“ and it worked perfectly fine. I could even „move the installation“ to the SSD and it still worked without a flaw. However, now the game needs to install an update and I get the same error messages as before when I tried to directly install it on the SSD -> „contents locked“ or „disk write error“.
What is going on here? Any idea for a fix? Using CrossOver 22.01.
