Apparently, Axiom Verge 2, as of many versions ago, requires the sapi-iteration-tokens patch from wine-staging to even start now. Otherwise, it fails to find the SAPI interface and just quits. Even just finding the interface is required now, regardless of whether you enable the voiceover narration in the game.
