Is there a current issue with Steam being unable to launch on new M4 devices?
I've attempted with both Crossover and out of interest Whisky, and the same inability to bypass the update screen and therefore fatal error is the case in both software packages.
Is there something I'm doing wrong, or is there a current problem that needs resolving?
In your bottle settings, does your Synchronization say "ESync" or "MSync"? I don't have the same error as you, but Steam doesn't start up here when using ESync. So maybe try that setting?
I forgot to say I'm going to install Steam straight from within the latest crossover. Just to see if I get the same errors. I'll report after I get it going IF I get it going :) :)
This is the version of crossover I'm going to try to install:
MBP Max M4 64GB RAM
Crossover Preview: Version 20240925 (25.0.0.38285)
D3DMetal
ESync
High Resolution Mode: ON
No reported problems so far with any game I'm running. Or launching and installing a Steam Bottle.
In case you have the game try to play The Binding of Isaac Rebirth on it or Noita, those 2 games seem to be the 2 games who cause freezes and crashes und M4 Pro and M4 Max chips. At least for me The Binding of Isaac is impossible to open (only possible with Parallels).
Would like to hear back from you :)
Unzip, double-click to install bottle into crossover, Wait, double click steam icon, and wait about 2-5 min depending on your system (don't forget to click the allow microphone dialogue that pops up from steam)
Built, Tested, and working in Crossover Version 24.0.5 (24.0.5.37094)
Enjoy!
PLease let me know if anyone has any problems with it but it should work just fine for everyone.
.:UPDATE:. THe standard Mac archive tool messes up the file when you try to extract it I recommend a 3rd party (FREE) one called The Unarchiver. It'll extract to the file you need to install. I apologize I should have posted this sooner.
My son had that Issac game! I tried every setting I could think of on that clean install of Steam I posted. HARSH freezes and reboots on every darn setting I could think of.
I don't have the other game to test for you sorry.
I'll try it in the preview version quickly just to see if it works.
.:UPDATE:. Crashes hard in preview but at least spits out a ultra ultra long error log. if you can grab it before the crash that is... what a violent game LOL
