Cannot detect video card

After i sucessfully installed the game, whenever i try to run the game the message "Cannot detect 3D video card" appears and it says that the game will not run properly. When i opened the game after the message, only a white screen appears and music plays in the background. Help would be appreciated.

I am using Mac 10.4.11 and running crossover games 9.2.0.

Thanks in advance.

Hi,

Sounds like videocard - what brand/model of video card/chipset
is your Mac fitted with, and how much video memory has it got?
(Applications->Utilities->System Profiler)

Cheers!

The video card is GMA 950 with 64 vram of memory... but I'm not with my laptop right now so I can't 100% confirm but I'm pretty sure thats it.

Hi,

Figured as much (it was either a gma-950 or x1600)...umm,
let me find the post answered a couple of days back...ahh!...

Have a read of that thread, and try some of the suggestions
mentioned there and let us know what worked (if anything).
The app may still complain about the video chipset, but you
may be able to play it regardless of that.

Cheers!

ps: make sure you have emulate a virtual desktop enabled
as well ; 64mb vram isn't a lot to play with...

I tried using the Registry Edit and added the exact strings that were shown in the link you provided (though I am still unsure if if I did that correctly) as well as changing the settings to allow the application to open in a virtual desktop, but the result is still the same. I have also installed DirectX modern as well.

Did you disable/test the vertex/pixel shader settings in
the Wine Configuration GUI?

Yes, with both settings and everything else I still get a black screen and and a weird white background that appears behind the virtual laptop when I attempt to play it. The music in the background still plays though...

That should not happen -- if emulate a virtual desktop is enabled,
the win32 app should only draw inside that window -- saying a weird
white background appears behind the virtual desktop window, to me,
means on your desktop...ie; your desktop background is being affected?

Is that what you're saying here?

Cheers!

Sorta... I guess I should try to describe it better. My Virtual desktop size is 800x600, and after i allow the game to play after the "cannot detect video card warning" the virtual desktop background stays black and a white background seems to grow from it. It doesn't cover the whole screen but it covers quite a bit of space.

I think I may have found the problem. I'm trying to play the demo version of the game, not the full version. I was going to try the demo before i actually bought the game but it seems i may just buy the game first, then test it. I'm gonna purchase the game when I get the chance (that is, if I can find it first =/) then try it again to see if it works. Luckily I'll have the regedit settings already set up so I don't have to go through all of that again.

Hi,

Well, the results over at winehq (wrt linux) would seem to concur with that,
and for sure I've hit a few titles where the demo doesn't work but the full
release does (I've seen the opposite true as well ;)...

Cheers!
