Windows Media Player 9 Tips

Using a Windows XP Bottle

Windows Media Player 9 series is installed in a Windows 98 bottle by default. Installing it in a Windows XP bottle resolves some issues, but creates other issues.

  • All strings that appear as garbage in a Windows 98 bottle, including skin names, appear correctly
  • Media Guide and Radio Tuner are not usable ("connect the player" link results in a script error if Internet Explorer 6.0 is installed, and does not appear at all if Internet Explorer 7.0 is installed)
  • Windows Media Player Options doesn't work
  • The wmplayer.exe process may fail to close, in which case it will have to be killed. Alternatively, you can use the "Reset CrossOver" tool.
