Watchtower Library 2010 Tips

How to get WTL 2010 working

Watchtower 2010 has some code changes that weren't present in previous year's releases of WTL, and as a result it is tricky to install in Crossover.  The following two options can be used to get a working copy of Watchtower 2010 on your Mac with Crossover.  Option 1 is easier, especially if you don't consider yourself to be computer savvy.

Please note that Watchtower 2010 is unsupported in Crossover, and our staff does not have access to this program.  The installation options, below, were submitted by users, and confirmed by other users.  Because our staff does not have access to the program (and thus have never tested it, ourselves), we cannot provide much help with installing Watchtower 2010.  Everything that we know about how to install Watchtower 2010 comes from user-submitted information, and is printed below:

Option 1: This tip requires that you already have WTL 2009 installed

Tips on how to install Watchtower 2009

  1. Insert your WTL 2010 disc. Ignore the auto-install window Crossover might pop up.
  2. Open a finder, and browse into the structure of your WTL 2010 disc.
  3. Find the rs_data folder on the WTL 2010 disc. Copy that folder to your desktop.
  4. Open a new Finder window
  5. Go to (your home folder)/Library/Application Support/Crossover/Bottles/(WTL 2009 Bottle)/drive_c/Program Files/Watchtower/Watchtower Library 2009/E
    1. Note that on OS X 10.7 (Lion), the "Library" folder is hidden. To find it, open up a finder, click on the "Go" menu and hold down the "option" key on your keyboard. "Library" will then appear in the "Go" menu.
  6. In /E there should already be a rs_data folder.
  7. Copy the rs_data folder on your desktop (from the WTL 2010 disc) into /E and overwrite the existing rs_data folder.
You can now launch Watchtower 2009 in Crossover and it will contain the 2010 information.

(Thanks to Jeff for this tip!)

Option 2: This tip requires you to copy a library file from a Windows XP machine

Thanks to Ismael Lezcano for these instructions
  1. Install WTL 2010 into a Windows XP bottle as a standard Unsupported Program
  2. Obtain a copy of iphlpapi.dll from a legitimate installation of Windows XP. The file resides in C:\windows\system32
  3. Copy this file into the same location in your Watchtower 2010 bottle
    (your home folder)/Library/Application Support/Crossover/Bottles/(WTL 2010 Bottle)/drive_c/windows/system32
    1. Note that on OS X 10.7 (Lion), the "Library" folder is hidden. To find it, open up a finder, click on the "Go" menu and hold down the "option" key on your keyboard. "Library" will then appear in the "Go" menu.
  4. Launch Crossover, and head to Configure>Manage Bottles
  5. Select your Watchtower 2010 bottle, and click on Control Panel
  6. Launch Wine Configuration
  7. Click on the Libraries tab
  8. Type in iphlpapi.dll in the New Override for library field and click Add.
  9. Click Ok to exit out of Wine Config.
That's it!  You should now have a working copy of Watchtower 2010.
