For a simple Civ-5 like strategy game this game has pretty huge system requirements. I was able to get the game to run reliably only after I set graphics to low, fullscreen, and 1920x1200 resolution. Anything higher and the game would crash 1-30 minutes into play. This was on my iMac 3Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo, 4Gb ram, ATI 4850 HD 512Mb.
You may also want to manually specify your graphics card memory size using regedit. Check out the walkthrough of how to use the registry editor in Crossover if you haven't before. You need to set the key HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Wine\Direct3D\VideoMemorySize to your video card's memory size in megabytes.
