Uplink: Hacker Elite Tips

In fullscreen mode, only the upper-left 2/3rds of the screen are visible by default (as of Crossover 24.05 in a bottle created via the Steam Crosstie with DXVK enabled on an Intel Mac running Ventura in 2024). There's already a tip suggesting to configure your bottle in XP mode with virtual-desktop enabled, but an alternative is to run the game in windowed mode:

1. In Steam, click "properties" for the game.
2. In General -> Launch Options, add "-graphics_fullscreen '!graphics_screenwidth' 800 '!graphics_screenheight' 600" to run in an 800x600 window. You can edit the "800" and "600" to change the resolution, but I think it only recognizes a specific list of resolutions, check the in-game graphics settings for the list.
3. If you have trouble getting resolutions other than 800x600 to work from the command-line, set the resolution using the in-game video options and then remove the launch-options to let the in-game settings take over.

The game does work well in windowed mode, but I find the font-size uncomfortably small and there appears to be no way to make it larger or stretch the window to make everything larger. If the XP instructions in the tip from bloodtigerIO get the game to run in full-screen mode, that may be the superior approach as it will stretch the content to fill your screen at small resolutions... making the font-size larger. In windowed mode, the window just gets smaller and the font stays the same size.
