1. Command shortcuts are the fastest way to execute a command, for in one step, a user can access a command that otherwise takes at least two steps to open a top-level menu then select a menu item. UFile 2010 has few command shortcuts, and I haven't noticed problems when running UFile on a Windows computer, but have had to experiment when running UFile using CrossOver 10.0.1 under Mac OS X 10.6.7.
2. If you're not sure what a command shortcut is, here are a few that are often encountered on Macs and Windows computers. Keys used differ, but the basic idea is the same for typical combinations like:
Mac Shortcut Windows Shortcut
New command-N control-N
Open command-O control-O
Print command-P control-P
Save command-S control-S
3. Running UFile 2010 within CrossOver for Mac, just use the Windows shortcut listed above (and shown in UFile menu items) to access a New file, or to Open or Save an existing file. At this stage, it's too early to tell if the Windows shortcut will work to Print a tax return, for I haven't done enough data entry, but I have confirmed that two other Windows shortcuts work:
Change language control-L
Other family member... control-M
4. A few command shortcuts from Windows, some unique to UFile, require the use of function keys; to use them while running UFile using CrossOver for Mac, first hold down the fn key, then press the function key. (It seems - from using Mac programs under OS X - that this is an OS X requirement, rather than a CrossOver for Mac issue.)
Windows Shortcut CrossOver for Mac Shortcut
Help index* F1 fn-F1
Tax return F9 fn-F9 presumably, but can't be checked at this stage of entry**
Spouse alt-F12 fn-alt-F12
* The Help index will open and list entries, but no content will be displayed. This is a general CrossOver issue, not unique to UFile
** The menu item is greyed out; the shortcut seems to be bubbling up to OS X because neither UFile nor CrossOver can handle it
