The issue: The game doesn't start at all or crashes, the game starts but certain textures and sprites are missing, performance issues, music is missing on certain levels, Glide errors when launching the game.
Details: Turok 1 & 2 require DirectX 5, which doesn't seem to be enough when using Crossover - even though Turok installs it automatically during its installation. But Turok also fully supports 3Dfx/Glide (Voodoo) and actually recommends it to achieve optimal results (don't forget we're talking about the 90's here =).
The fix (using a Windows 98/XP bottle): 1. Disable (!) the performance enhanced graphics via Crossover for the entire bottle and download and install a 3Dfx/Glide wrapper of your choice into the new Turok-bottle. I recommend using
nGlide (3Dfx wrapper) from
Zeus-Software. It can be downloaded
here.
2. Virtually reboot the bottle via Crossover and launch Turok.
3. Navigate to the graphics-tab and select the "3Dfx custom driver" or "3Dfx Vodoo Interactive" instead of the default "DirectX HAL" driver. Adjust the graphics to your liking.
4. Save the new settings and launch the game.
Voilà! This should fix all of the issues mentioned above.
Have fun and remember; I AM TUROK!
